Kerak Telor (Spicy Glutinous Rice Omelette with Grated Coconut)
(Source: Dapur KOBE)
Kerak Telor is one of my childhood's favorite street food. Kerak telor is an omelette dish from Betawi, an indigenous culture in Jakarta. Kerak Telor is made from Ketan Putih (glutinous rice) cooked with (preferably) duck or chicken egg, Ebi (dried salted shrimp), Serundeng (sweet grated coconut granules). They usually sell kerak telor in a tourist attraction in Jakarta. However, I usually eat that once/twice a year when it is a time to celebrate Jakarta's birthday. The price of Kerak Telor is around Rp. 15.000 to Rp 25.000 ($1.10 to $2)
It is the first time to know about Kerak Telor, but it really looks delicious. I love coconut and dried shrimp, so I will probably like it! It looks a little similar to Japanese Okonomiyaki, which is made out of flour, egg, grated yam, and choice of veggies and meat. We would sometimes put dried shrimp too.
